Paddlefishing Time??

It is way too early to think about paddlefish, but with the winter we have had it seems like it should be right around the corner. The river is open, the paddlefish jumping and the walleyes are biting. Even the lake is opening about the time we would still be sneaking on with some tip ups for that great late ice bite. It is quite obvious that we are going to have a low water year in the river this paddlefish season which means a quick but great season. There are a few changes with the main one being how the licensing will work from this season forward. There are no longer any of the old licenses that you fill out by hand. It is all on line at home or at the store, like Scenic Sports has been the last few seasons but tags will also be registered on line as you pick them up. In order to get a youth tag they will need to have a social security number so be sure you bring that number with you for any of the youth who want to fish. Once again if you live in the area buy your license ahead of time as this will make the process a little slower at a very busy time. For those many people who travel out here to take part in the “Battle for the Paddle”, you will be happy to know rooms are much more affordable and the traffic and pace of Williston has mellowed a bunch. Lake temperature are going to be much warmer if this weather pattern stays like this, smelt and walleye activity could be very good on the lake during the opening of paddlefishing so bring the extra gear to make this the trip of a lifetime!

The tip-ups and augers are packed away but the paddlefish weights, hooks, rods & reels and combos are all up ready for one more exciting season. We will also have a bunch of “Battle for the Paddle” sweatshirts available for men, women and youth. They burned out here last year so if you want one saved for you stop in or give us a call. Check them out on our Facebook page or website. See you soon!!!!!
