North Dakota Fishing & Hunting Reports
29
Very little change in the North Dakota paddlefish regulations compared to what we thought was going to happen. It is not a lottery like they had talked about last year. The hours have changed slightly and the days of catch and keep. Now the days you must keep your fish are Friday & Saturday and then Tuesday & Wednesday. Leaving Sunday, Monday and Thursday as the catch and release days. Like in the past you must have and unused tag to do the catch and release so once you tag up you are done for the season. The new hours are from 8 A.M. to 9 P.M. and there is no a 24 hour closure notice once they feel that the harvest is getting close to the annual quota. You also cannot keep your tagged paddlefish in the river overnight and tagged fish must.

The season looks like it will be good! Big numbers of paddlefish rolling on the surface are being seen in the river by the walleye fishermen. The weather had been cool for the last week or so and then we got hit with one more blast of snow a couple days ago. It will be pretty much gone for opener but it will be muddy so be prepared. The smelt also have not ran yet and the cool weather is holding them off so we will see a good run when the warmer weather and sunshine hit us. Good chance of smelt action in the nights after paddlefishing is done for the day.
